Android and the future of Smartphones

T-Mobile has got some great prepaid phones on the market of late, the one I want to talk about is the T-Mobile Comet, this phone is great value. The current pricing as of March 2011 is $150 which is a real bargain for a Android Os phone.

As most people have become aware from heavy advertising the Android OS is becoming a market leader in the realm of smart phones and tablet devices. The main feature on the Android System is the freedom to multi-task and install any application you damn please.

So having the right to choose many different hardware brands, make the phones have more of a competitive edge than other phones. I predict in the next year we will see Android enabled phones will be around the $50 mark for prepaid phones.
So back to the T-Mobile Comet, with the great price it’s going to push old phones like the basic cell phones of the shelves.
The touch screen has become an unspoken standard on Smart phone due to the rising range of devices that have this feature. The on screen keyboards that these phones have have become a lot easier to use and will eventually push the very popular Smart Phones with physical QWERTY keyboards.

The addition of GPS and A-GPS (Assisted GPS) has also become standard on mid range phones removing the need for a separate GPS device, along with data from the Internet on these phones they can be up to date with the latest maps and traffic flows.

The Top Four iPad Alternatives

1. The iPad Killers?

Apple’s iPad appears to be winning the tablet war for 2010 or 2011, but I want to keep you up to date on the stiffest competitors coming down the pipeline

Similar to its iPod and iPhone product lines, Apple has found itself ahead of the curve when it comes to the iPad. Say what you want about the iPad hardware and software, but there isn’t much room for debate when it comes to the sales figures. Jobs & Co. sold 300,000 iPads on the first day of release back in April, over three million in the first 80 days, and analysts put 2010 sales close to eight million total units.

2. BlackBerry PlayBook (Research In Motion)

Announced just a few days ago, the BlackBerry PlayBook is RIM’s answer to the iPad. From its dual-core CPU and dual HD cameras to its new-look OS and ability to pump out video, the PlayBook has a lot to offer in the hardware department while offering a fresh new operating system (it does not run BlackBerry OS 6).

The OS on the PlayBook is a new frontier for BlackBerry devices. The QNX-built (a company recently acquired by RIM) webOS-looking BlackBerry Tablet OS promises to be multitask-friendly. Furthermore, RIM already has an App World for its BlackBerry smartphones, so the company has experience when it comes to delivering applications to consumers. Sure, the RIM App World has its pros and cons when compared to Apple’s App Store, but it’s certainly a good start. Other pros for the new OS? Support for Abobe Flash 10.1 and AIR-based applications, and HTML5 support..

This 10.1-inch Android 3.0, or Honeycomb, tablet sports an Nvidia Tegra 2 dual-core processor, uses a laptop-like 1280 x 800 resolution, and has two cameras: a 2-megapixel sensor in the front for video chat over Wi-Fi, 3G or 4G and a 5-megapixel rear camera for stills and 720p video recording.
